The CCAWV Board of Directors and Legislative Committee convened in Martinsburg (Berkeley County) on Sunday, May 17th for their spring meeting. Berkeley County Council President, Doug Copenhaver, and council member Elaine Mauck were on hand to greet their fellow commissioners and welcome the group to lovely Berkeley County.

The spring meeting provides an opportunity to discuss the recently wrapped Legislative Session. CCAWV’s lobbyist, Steve Kominar, was there to give his prospective on the session and report on CCAWV’s legislative priorities.

Senator Charles Trump and Delegate Walter Duke joined the meeting to discuss their reactions to the session, as well as give commissioners an idea about what priorities they suspected would emerge for the 2016 session. Both the Senator and the Delegate urged commissioners to pay attention to the Tax Reform Committee. While the committee is currently just collecting information, they cautioned that they expected some recommendations to come out of the committee which could impact counties.

(CCAWV has been monitoring these meetings and is on the agenda to speak at the upcoming meeting on June 9th, 2015.)

On Monday morning, Commissioners tackled a full agenda. The board worked steadily through lunch, receiving reports from Executive Director, Vivian Parsons, and representatives to various committees. After a full day, commissioners were invited to a Leadership Appreciation Dinner at Boyd’s Steakhouse, a new addition to picturesque downtown Martinsburg.

CCAWV would like to thank board members, legislative committee members, administrators, and commissioners who took time out of busy spring schedules to join us for what was a very productive meeting. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Berkeley County Council for their warm welcome, and to Senator Trump and Delegate Duke for joining our meeting!
