Welcome to CCAWV

Our mission is to "maintain a statewide agency for the purpose of promoting the interest and general welfare of local county government through a variety of communication tools; to represent county government before the West Virginia Legislature, administrative agencies, and the federal government; to educate the public about the value and need for county programs and services; and to facilitate the exchange of problems, ideas and solutions among county officials."

JAK Kincaid of the Citizens Conservations Corps of WV explained the“Reaching the Summit” community serviceinitiative. At the 2017 Boy Scout Jamboree,40,000 scouts and volunteers have committed to completing 300,000 hours of community service projects. Whatstarted with nine counties at the last Jamboree will expand to include all 55 counties! As this effort will require extensiveplanning, the CCCWV has already begun coordinating efforts to recruit and organize a volunteer base. We encourage allcommissions to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to showcase our beautiful state, while completing valuableservice projects in your communities!

Mike Rezak of the WVCoRP discussed the importance of having solid policies and procedures in place. When he reviews various policies and procedures, he finds that occasionally, they are not in line with the actual practices of the county. He encouraged counties to re view their policies and eliminate superfluous or redundant language, and also scan for policy gaps.

Dave Barton of Shenandoah Valley Group rounded out the session with some doom andgloom. In addition to explaining the upcomingcoverage changes to PEIA, he walked attendeesthrough the extensive IRS reporting that will berequired for all employers with over fiftyemployees. While it was daunting, counties appreciated the forewarning. The IRS has not made this informationwidely available, so this will give counties time to prepare!

We appreciate everyone who came out and participated in the trainings! We especially thank the presenters for taking the time to share valuable information! All handouts from the trainings are available on the “Member downloads” section of our website: www.ccawv.org/member-downloads.html
