One of the primary functions of CCAWV is to increase public awareness and understanding of the complex duties of commissioners.  In an effort to further this awareness, CCAWV partners with West Virginia educators for this annual essay contest.  Since the eighth grade social studies curriculum focuses on West Virginia, the CCAWV essay contest compliments (and hopefully enhances) what the students are already learning.

This year’s response was excellent – CCAWV received almost 70 essays, all of them very good.  A committee of commissioners (some of them retired teachers) and CCAWV Executive Director Vivian Parsons reviewed the entries and, with great difficulty, selected the winners:

1st place – Madeline Wright – Monongalia County – Mountaineer Middle School

2nd place – Jaiden Courrier – Mineral County – Keyser Middle School

3rd place – Logan Clingerman – Monongalia County – Westwood Middle School

Congratulations to this year’s winners!  Prizes will be distributed at the winners’ county commission offices by CCAWV Executive Director, Vivian Parsons.  Family members, teachers, and members of the press are encouraged to attend the brief award ceremony.
